My two brothers and I stayed the night last night at my
Grandma’s house, as tradition. Usually we like to go night swimming once
everyone has left and gone home, but this year it got really cool. We didn’t
even go swimming yesterday, which is very unusual. Today we began our clean-up
process at my Grandma’s house. There is always a bunch of pieces of fireworks
around the yard and drive way to pick up and throw away. We took down all the
decorations and put them back into their bags and put them all back into their
spots for the next year. We talked about all the fun times we had yesterday and
who all was there. We like to try to think of everyone that was there and make
a count. This year it seemed like there were quite a few people gone out of
town, but it was still fun. There are usually a bunch of left over fireworks so
we like to set some off as we clean. Some people will forget their fireworks
there, or leave their extras there for us too. When we were little we thought
that was the best thing ever to get free fireworks. When my cousins and I were
little we even made our own little pretend firework stand too. We got all of
the big boxes from the big fireworks and put them on a table along with the
bottle rockets and smoke bombs and all kinds of other stuff. We had a lot of
fun together trading fireworks and pretending we were selling the fireworks for
real. It is funny to think back on times like those when you were little and
didn’t know any better. The simplest of things had a way of making you happy
and creating you the most joy. I believe that the simplest of things can truly
bring us the greatest joy if we allow them to.
